Bernstein Management Company, a prominent building owner in the DC market, has been holding on to its ace in the hole and is now ready to play its hand.
During the days of Westside Story, this West End gem once housed the polished and purring hotrods of DC’s FBI. Known then as the White House Transportation Facility, this landmark is about to undergo a full-throttle transformation.
Located beside the Hilton Garden Inn along 22nd Street just north of M Street, 1222 22nd Street, NW is a rare 4-story 50,000 SF warehouse building that will be converted into what could be the coolest loft space in the city.
Each floor measures approximately 13,000 SF and boasts 13’5”-15’5” ceilings with oversized bay windows to match. The building is reminiscent of the coveted Wonder Bread Building located by the Howard Metro Station in Shaw.
A 9,000 SF penthouse with rooftop terrace will be added to the property featuring both indoor and outdoor space and skylights to wash light through the 4th floor. From this vantage point, one will be able to enjoy the hustle and bustle of one DC’s most prominent neighborhoods.
The original brick façade will undergo a restoration which will be paired with new building mechanics to include base building systems, elevators and restrooms.
The new 1222 22nd Street, NW is scheduled to deliver in the third quarter of 2018, and the buzz is already underway. With the help of Studios Architecture, the new vision of once “Capitol Cadillac Showroom” is coming into fruition and we are excited to see the lucky group, or groups, that will get the keys to this new ride.
